Rutherglen Reformer

Fancy dress fun

-

Local kids showed they were fully booked last week as they donned various costumes to make World Book Day.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, many schools still held events either in school or online, encouraging youngsters to dress up as their favourite characters from books.

The Reformer received plenty of pictures of youngsters dressed up as their favourite characters, featuring everything from princesses to superheroes and fairy tale characters.

Even the pandemic couldn’t dampen the spirits of these young book worms and here we have printed a selection of their great photographs.

Central Scotland MSP Richard Leonard has written to the Scottish Government asking for immediate action to resolve the “significant problems” with the newly launched Mobile and HomeBased Close Contact Service Providers Fund.

Applicants to the fund, which is meant for owners and operators of mobile and home-based close contact service businesses and registered driving instructors, have received automatic rejections due to errors with the system.

Mr Leonard said: “Constituents have been in touch with me with serious issues and concerns after they had their support application rejected by this newly launched fund.

“The Scottish Government has had months upon months to get this service right and, as such, this will come as a blow to owners of close contact businesses and driving instructors.

“Unlike other funds, there is no recourse of appeal if rejected, which is unfair.”
