Bully Wee return was like ‘Disneyland visit’

- EUAN ROBERTSON

Danny Lennon compared Clyde’s return to training to kids visiting Disneyland.

The Bully Wee enjoyed their first training session in months on Saturday after receiving the green light to return from the SFA last week.

Clyde haven’t been allowed to train in over two months and Lennon likened the moment to when children visit the iconic theme park in Paris.

He said: “It was brilliant. We were all like wains visiting Disneyland for the first time - it was fantastic.

“It was good to see a few characters too. I was pleased to see everyone and they were all looking good.

“I’m looking forward to working with them again and it was so good to get back together again.

“As much as we know that it’s going to be a very tough schedule, we are looking forward to it and trying to get ourselves further up the table.”

The 51 year-old manager was delighted with the condition that his players returned to training in.

It’s likely that the League One season will recommence on March 20 and Lennon insisted that the focus will be on getting players reacquainted with playing football again.

He said: “The way that the boys have came back after doing sessions on Zoom and programmes we gave them is great.

“They’ve showed great self-discipline during lockdown and they all look good – they’ve got a good base fitness.

“After testing on Thursday, we had a meeting regarding the levels and schedules that we would give the boys.

“We will probably only get six sessions in collectively before the games begin so we need to try fit everything physical, technical and tactical work.

“Yesterday was all about getting the players a touch of the football and try to build their rhythm back up.”

Clubs will be allowed to play games against other sides during the training phase but Lennon is undecided about the benefits of bounce games.

He revealed: “I’ve had a few clubs contact me about that but I’ve still to get back to one or two of them. I’m conscious about the value in it so I won’t make a decision on that just now.

“In my mind, I’m unsure about playing a game because with the busy schedule, I don’t want to risk injury.

“We don’t have any games lined up at the moment but everybody is different in how they want to bake a cake.

“We think that we will get more out of the whole group from a training session rather than a game.”
