McLean plays part as Nisbet waits

- PAUL THOMSON

Cambuslang star Kevin Nisbet could be handed his Scotland debut tonight when the national side face Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden.

The Hibs striker and fellow Cambuslang star Kenny McLean were both called up for this month’s tripleheader and while McLean has made substitute appearances in the draws with Austria last Thursday and Israel on Sunday, Nisbet is yet to pull on a jersey.

That could change when Steve Clarke’s side face Group F minnows Faroe Islands and it would be a landmark moment for the 23-year-old talent.

Nisbet was talked up on Sportscene recently, with former Scotland international James McFadden keen to see the former Trinity High School pupil get his shot on the international stage.

McFadden said :“There’s more to his game than just scoring goals. He’s got good movement, he’s intelligent and he brings others in to play.

“He’s a good foil at times with Christian Doidge [his strike partner at Hibs] being that aerial threat.

“I think it’s deserved [his call-up]. The season that he’s had, the journey and story that he has, it’s right that they’re having a look at him because it’s bringing competition for places now.

“If you go back to the play-off games, everything was on Lyndon Dykes and even at that point, you’re still not sure what you’re going to get from Lyndon Dykes.

“So it can only be good that you’ve got strikers coming in that are good and can provide goals and assists.”
