Cases drop 85 per cent from peak

New coronaviru­s cases in Lanarkshir­e fell by almost a third last week.

The Scottish Government confirmed there had been another 28 cases recorded in the county on Monday – the lowest daily tally since September 14, 2020.

As a result, there were 333 positive tests in the region last week which is a drop of 29.7 per cent on the previous week.

Covid-19 cases in the region are now at their lowest level for almost seven months after numbers fell for the second week in succession and the 10th time in 2021.

Across Scotland, 199 new positive tests were confirmed on Monday as case numbers continue to fall.

Overall, Covid-19 cases in Lanarkshir­e are now down by 85 per cent since the new year peak in the week beginning January 4, when 2,353 were confirmed.

Deaths from coronaviru­s are also continuing to fall with two recorded in Lanarkshir­e this month.

Last week, one person died from Covid-19, which is the lowest in a single week since the week beginning August 31 – the last time the county went a full week without recording a coronaviru­s death.

In total, 40,388 people have tested positive for coronaviru­s in Lanarkshir­e and 1,310 people have died from the virus.

Lanarkshir­e has been the worst affected region in Scotland by coronaviru­s with 6,101.8 cases and 197.9 deaths for every 100,000 residents.

Across the region, 345,942 people – 63.7 per cent of the population – have received their first dose of a coronaviru­s vaccinatio­n and 55,037 of them – 10.1 per cent of the population – have received both doses.
