CAMBUSLANG RANGERS .................... 8 FAULDHOUSE UNITED ......................... 1

Billy Campbell hopes Cambuslang Rangers can continue their proud history in the Scottish Junior Cup.

The Somervell Park side started their cup campaign with a resounding 8-1 win over Fauldhouse courtesy of goals from Ben Richford, Tony Stevenson a Gordon Dick double and Scott Williamson with four.

Camby have won the Scottish Cup five times in their history and finished runners-up on six occasions.

Only Auchinleck Talbot have won the prestigious tournament more and Cambuslang’s achievements have been recognised in the Scottish Football Association’s Hall of Fame.

Co-boss Campbell was delighted with Camby’s win over Fauldhouse to maintain their winning run and he’d love to follow in the footsteps of some famous sides in the Scottish Cup.

“I was really pleased,”Campbell admitted.

“We are working really hard with the team to ensure they maintain the standards they set.

“We are playing really well and I’m impressed with their attitude because it’s important that they keep their feet on the ground.

“It’s brilliant to see other guys chip in with goals and Scott scored another four goals, which is remarkable.

“His goal return is exceptional and he’s playing with so much confidence.

“Every player is playing with confidence without it reaching a level of arrogance.

“Cambuslang Rangers have a fantastic history in the Scottish Cup. We are the only junior club that are in the SFA hall of fame due to our exploits in that tournament in the 1970’s and early 80’s.

“That makes it a really special tournament to this club and if we can get a couple of games together and emulate any success then it would be brilliant - it’s so important to us.”

Camby have been drawn away to West of Scotland Premier Division side Rossvale in the second round.

The game will be played at Petershill Park on Saturday, September 25 and Campbell expects a tough tie.

Campbell added:“They are a Premier Division team so it will be a huge step up for the guys. We just need to do what we normally do and we will prepare well. We won’t make many changes, unless we need to, and we will try to do our best on the day.

“It will be on astroturf so that makes it a bit of a different game. It’s going to be a really tough tie because they are in the top flight.”
