Scoring goals is the hardest part of football but on-fire Cambuslang Rangers striker Scott Williamson is making it look easy.

The Fernhill man has bagged an incredible 21 goals in just 10 games this season in a record that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would be jealous of.

It’s even more remarkable given that Williamson is playing his first full season with Cambuslang’s firstteam in the West of Scotland League.

The 20-year-old is in red-hot form but he revealed that he’s been renowned for registering a crazy amount of goals at youth level.

“I just can’t stop scoring,” Williamson added. “It’s really good and I never expected to score this much when I’d just started in the first-team. When I’ve been playing under-20s and under-19s, I’ve still been scoring like 40 and 50 goals a season. I’ve always been known for scoring a lot of goals.

“I’ve scored at least 40 goals for the last few full seasons. I’ve always played for Cambuslang based teams and I was at a team called Camby FA before.

“It’s pretty much my debut season. I played a little bit last season but because of Covid it got cut off. “I only really played three games. “I always backed myself to get a place in the starting team because I believed that I was good enough.

“I knew that I still needed to prove that but I feel that everybody knows that now.”

Williamson has netted a ridiculous 11 times in his last two games as Camby scored eight goals in consecutive matches for the first time in their history.

The prolific striker scored four goals in a 8-1 win over Fauldhouse on Saturday and he netted a magnificent seven goals in a 8-2 win over Newmains in the WOSFL Conference B.

He said:“We started really slowly in that game and they scored but we responded well. I received a ball down the line and cut in to score.

“After that, I was getting really good service and I kept putting the chances away. I was flying.

“I never set myself any targets at the start of the season because I just wanted to get back playing.

“Last season was so boring because I couldn’t get out and play on a Saturday which I’ve been used to all my life.

“I think I can get a good amount of goals this season now. I’m already on 21 and there’s still so much of the season to be played. If I can keep it up who knows how many I can score.”

Cambuslang are in scintillating form with eight consecutive wins as they sit top of the league and Williamson praised the quality within the squad.

“The team is playing really well and we have a great side,”he added.

“The midfield is amazing and in defence, our centre-back has been changing most weeks. We are getting used to that now and it’s pretty good.

“We are able to change our formation too which is good as sometimes we play a 4-4-2 and sometimes we play three in midfield.

“I don’t really mind if I play with a partner or not.”

Williamson is a versatile striker, but he idolises Manchester City legend

Sergio Aguero. He said:“I love to run in behind but I also like to drop in to get the ball if needed. I’m quite quick so I like to threaten behind the defenders.

“When I watched football growing up, I liked to watch Aguero because his movement was just so good. It was amazing because you normally see big strikersinthePremierLeague, youdon’t reallyseesomeonereallyfastandsmall.”
