Church celebrating return of worshippers ... and singing

A Cambuslang church is preparing for a celebration service to mark parishioners being back in the pews.
The Rev Peter Nimmo has announced that Cambuslang Parish Church will host a special service at 10.30am on Sunday, September 12, to celebrate the easing of a number of lockdown restrictions allowing a greater number of people to attend – and sing!
He said: “The easing of restrictions has seen changes in what we are able to do in the context of the church.
“We’re now able to welcome more people to our in-person worship on Sundays. Booking is no longer essential but we encourage everyone to still wear face masks, social distance and use the hand gel provided at the door on the way in and out of the church.
“One thing which has helped make our worship more joyful is we are now able to sing in church– a real ‘Hallelujah’ moment for us!”
Rev Nimmo, who took over at the Arnott Way parish during the pandemic, is also planning an informal celebratory evening service in September
He said: “I arrived as the minister more than a year ago during the pandemic and, as a result, I wasn’t able to meet people.
“So we are going to have an informal evening with food and entertainment so people can come and meet me as we weren’t able to do so last year. As restrictions ease, I look forward to meeting more people in person and seeing our congregational life flower once again.
“However, I am very aware that some people will still need to be very careful, and may not be able to come to worship. We will continue to have our worship available for those at home. You can watch live or later on Facebook at 10.30am each Sunday.”

The church also has plans for a memorial service to mark the lives of those who passed away during the pandemic.
The date for this is yet to be confirmed, but it aims to remember those who lost their lives not only to Covid-19, but also those who passed away during the pandemic.
Rev Nimmo added: “Due to restrictions, funeral numbers were limited so people weren’t able to have the funeral they would have hoped for, for their loved ones.
“So we hope to contact families who we held funerals for during the lockdown but we are also opening this up to the community.
“This will be chance to remember together those in our congregation and community whom we have lost.”
