Murray Queen’s Park’s hero

Striker Simon Murray said Queen’s Park had to stand tall and put their bodies on the line to emerge with a 1-0 win at Falkirk that put them top of League One.

Murray’s spectacular 36th-minute free kick was enough to take the three points, but he admitted it was something of a battle.

The 29-year-old former Dundee United and Hibs star told Queen’s Park’s website:“I’m over the moon, it’s an amazing three points.

“They’re a very good team and we’ve gone there, had a game plan, and it was a great game, to be fair.

“It was end to end, a lot of chances, a great crowd, and it was great to get the three points – the boys are all buzzing.

“We defended well, they haven’t had clear-cut chances, and we put our bodies on the line.

“When you come to places like that the fans pull the ball into the goal at their end, so you’ve just got to stand tall, be aggressive, work hard, and you’ll get your rewards.”

Murray’s goal was similar to one he scored against Cove Rangers a few weeks ago, but though it put Laurie Ellis’side top of the table, he says they’re just looking to Friday’s SPFL Trust Trophy second round tie at Airdrie.

He said:“I’ve got two free kicks in a couple of weeks, so that’s not bad, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves.

“It was a good free kick and I’m buzzing to score again, but we’ll go again in the cup next, which will be a different kind of feel, and then we’ll get ready for the next league game.”
