Keirin Coleman says it will be a “kick in the teeth” if Rutherglen Glencairn don’t gun down his old club Blantyre Vics and move clear in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

Glens go into the Lanarkshire derby clash at the Hamish B. Allan Stadium in 14th place, hoping to stretch their lead over 16thplaced Vics with a valuable three points.

Willie Harvey’s side are looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat away to Kilbirnie Ladeside on

Saturday, while 10-man Vics were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Glenafton.

And the 25-year-old defender – who has also enjoyed spells at Alloa and Lowland League East Kilbride – says there will be no split loyalties when he comes up against a club where he enjoyed some good times.

Coleman told the Reformer: “Hopefully it’s three points for us on Saturday because it will be another kick in the teeth if we don’t, and I believe the team is strong enough to get it done just now.

“We started with the hardest first run of games, I would say, and we’ve done well so far, but it’s now about taking points off the teams that are round about us and creating a gap in-between us and the teams that are going to be fighting against relegation, because I don’t see us as one of them.

“This would be a really good time to get three points.

“With the game on Saturday at Kilbirnie that would have been a good time to get three points away, but with them getting a new manager it was always a hit or a miss.

“Speaking to the boys who were there, it was as if we were a bit deflated, we didn’t really

AJ Smith, Corey Baxter, Callum Gregson, Archie Ross and Jake Sharpe get going, but you can’t do that against the teams that are round about us, because those are the teams we need to be beating.”

Coleman spent two spells at Castle Park, playing for Vics between season 2016/17 to the end of season 2017/18 before returning for an 18 month spell in October 2018.

So he is eager to see Glens get one over on his old club – and says he’ll take a bit of stick if they don’t do it.

He added: “I definitely want the three points because I’ll have a few messages from some of the boys to say otherwise if we don’t do it!
