- COURT REPORTER

Two teenage thugs who ambushed a man in a bookmakers leaving him scarred for life walked free from court yesterday.

Lee McDonald and Taylor Dorman attacked their 38-year-old victim at a Ladbrokes in Rutherglen on July 20, 2019.

The pair – aged 19 and 18 – punched the man before striking his head with a weapon.

McDonald and Dorman left their stricken victim needing seven stitches in a wound which will result in permanent scarring.

The thugs pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to the man’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC put McDonald under supervision for 18 months while Dorman will be supervised for 12 months.

McDonald was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and Dorman will do 120 hours.

The pair, of Rutherglen, were also tagged for six months and five months respectively.

The court heard the two yobs were among a group of youths standing outside an off licence in the town’s main street.

Prosecutor Amy Hunter said: “[The victim] was at the doorway of a Ladbrokes when he was punched on the head and body.

“[He] ran in the bookmakers and was pursued by the two attackers.

“They continued to punch him on the head and body and repeatedly struck him with an unknown implement.

“One of the attackers picked up a stool and threw it at [the man].”

The pair fled after a member of staff told them the police had been contacted.

Officers arrived to see the man covered in blood and he was taken to hospital.

Miss Hunter added:“He needed three stitches to a wound on the right arm and four stitches to the head.

“This will result in permanent scarring.”

One of the wounds was also described as being“incised down to the bone.”

There was no recovery of the weapon.
