Golf facility work restarts
Work has now fully resumed on building a new golf complex for Rutherglen and Cambuslang, following delays caused by the pandemic.
The Topgolf facility on Cambuslang Road had only begun construction just weeks before Covid-19 swept the country last March, forcing work to be halted.
Originally the complex, the first operated by Topgolf in Scotland, was scheduled to have opened in the spring of this year and be based at the Two 74 Glasgow development owned by Ashfield Land.
Once complete, the facility is expected to create around 300 jobs.
Bosses say they will not be able to confirm a new opening date until early next year, but stated that they are delighted work is back underway.
Steven McGarva, development director at Ashfield Land, said: “We’re pleased to be back on site and making progress with construction of Scotland’s first Topgolf attraction at Ashfield Land’s Two 74 Glasgow development, off Cambuslang Road in Rutherglen.
“Following a hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we started back on site in July and began the main construction work in midAugust.
“Topgolf is a really unique attraction and we’re proud to be delivering the first one in
Scotland, the home of golf. It will be extremely popular with the people of Glasgow and a great addition to Clyde Gateway.
“On opening, around 300 full and part-time jobs will be created, with recruitment to be focused in the local area.
“We will provide another update early in the new year with further information on opening.”
The facility will allow golfers to practise their swing from climate controlled hitting bays 27 feet in the air, with micro-chipped golf balls that players drive towards a series of feature illuminated holes along with a number of other challenges.
The venue will also feature gaming areas and a restaurant.
Topgolf currently operates a number of venues across the US, with a further four across the world.
Last year the company was acquired by the Callaway Golf Company in a deal that valued the company at $2billion dollars.
Two 74 lies at Junction 2 of the M74 and is part of the Clyde Gateway regeneration programme. Previous proposals for the site included a hotel and a cinema.
