GET WELL SOON GAFFER

Glens’thoughts withWillie as he battles Covid-19

Rutherglen Glencairn assistant Joe Pryce says everyone’s thoughts are with boss Willie Harvey as he battles Covid, and wish him a speedy recovery.

Pryce was in charge for a second successive game on Saturday as Glencairn beat Bonnyton Thistle 2-0 to grab back-to-back wins in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

But Pryce said the most important thing is that Harvey makes a full recovery.

He said: “We’re delighted with the three points, but first and foremost, all our thoughts from the players, committee, management, everybody, are with the gaffer at the minute.

“We wish him a full recovery, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, as long as he makes a full recovery from this.”

Keirin Coleman and Jack McIlveen had Glens 2-0 up in the first half, but Matt McGinley made a crucial penalty save from Bonnyton in 43 minutes.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men with eight minutes left, when Logan Smith was sent off.

Pryce said: “We’re delighted with the three points.

“We played really well in the first half, got ourselves 2-0 up and then Matty made a really important penalty save right on half-time.

“We managed the game really well in the second half.

“Although Bonnyton had a lot of the ball, a lot of pressure, our

goalkeeper didn’t have a proper save to make in the second half, and we always looked dangerous on the break, like we could maybe nick another one.

“To go away from home in this division, keep a clean sheet and collect three points, you can’t ask for any more of the players.

“I think they’ve been brilliant over the last two weeks, after disappointment against Kilbirnie they’ve came back with backto-back wins, so they’ve been absolutely terrific.

“We’ve also moved that wee bit further away from the drop-zone, which is important.”

Glens host Glenafton on Saturday and Pryce is expecting another battle ahead.

He said: “Glenafton are a big club. They’ll feel they’re at the wrong end of the table, and it was only a couple of seasons ago that they were lifting the Premier League, the Scottish Cup, winning the West [Cup], and this will be another really tough game for us.”
