Local musician’s joy at joining Scottish rockers

A Rutherglen musician has spoken of her delight after joining one of Scotland’s biggest rock bands.

Audrey Tait was announced as the new drummer of Franz Ferdinand last week, replacing Paul Thomson, with a photograph showing Thomson handing his drumsticks over to her.

The stickswoman was hailed as “one of the best drummers in the world” by the Glasgow group, known for hits like Take Me Out and Do You Want To?

Audrey, who went to Stonelaw High, is a well-known face on the Scottish music scene and has been part of several acclaimed bands, including her ongoing synthpop duo The Girl Who Cried Wolf and hip hop act Hector Bizerk.

She played her first gig with the rockers last month at the Balmain fashion show in Paris, and told the Reformer she was thrilled to be joining up.

She said: “I’m delighted to be on board.

“The guys in the band have been so welcoming and we’ve had a great time playing together.

“I can’t wait to get out on the road and take this energy onto the stage.”

In a statement the band said: “After having played with Paul for so long, it’s obvious that not just anyone could sit behind the kit in Franz Ferdinand, so we’re happy to say that one of the other best drummers in the world is joining us.

“Many of you in Glasgow will already know what an incredible musician Audrey Tait is and we’re thrilled to have her join us.

“It feels totally natural playing with her and she’s a great laugh. It has been electrifying being in the studio together and we can’t wait to play live for you all.”

The band formed in 2002 and have released five studio albums over the years. Their last effort – Always Ascending – was back in 2018.
