Jobs boost as store opens up

- MATT BRYAN

A new Home Bargains store opened in Rutherglen last week, creating 59 local jobs.

The chain has invested around £4m in the new shop which welcomed its first customers on Saturday, October 23.

As part of the opening on Dalmarnock Road, the company will also be donating £2000 to local charity Healthy ‘n’ Happy Community Development Trust which offers support to residents, helping them to make positive changes in their lives.

The store will employ 60 staff, including one who will be transferring from another store.

Mary Ann Macdonald, the new Dalmarnock Road store manager, said on Saturday: “I’ve worked in the retail sector for over 30 years, but there’s nothing quite like the buzz of opening a new store. There’s a lot of hard work and dedication that’s gone into the new store and I can’t wait to open its doors this weekend alongside such a fantastic team. It’s something that I’m exceptionally proud of.”

She continued: “Dalmarnock Road will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally

low prices.”

Brendan Rooney, executive director at Healthy ‘n’ Happy Community Development Trust, added: “On behalf of everyone at Healthy ‘n’ Happy thank you so much to Home Bargains for your support and kind donation.

“It really helps and will help us to support local residents and communities in very difficult times.

Best wishes for your new store.”

The new Rutherglen store will join over 575 outlets across the UK.

The chain is currently opening approximately 50 stores a year.

The 20,893 sq ft store will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.
