Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says his players are reaping the rewards of working with Rangers legend Andy Goram.

The former Scotland international is the West of Scotland Football League Conference B side’s goalkeeping coach. He and fellow coach Kiegan Parker’s sessions were key in securing a crucial 2-0 win over St Cadoc’s on Saturday.

It was first versus second as goals from Scott Anson and Jay Nelson put Camby four points clear at the top.

“It was all good on Saturday and very pleasing,” said Campbell. “I need to give a bit of recognition to my coaching staff. We had two great training sessions from Kiegan Parker and Andy Goram.

“That preparation set us up very well for Saturday. We talk constantly about football, about shape, about full-backs tucking in to show wingers on the outside.

“All the stuff that Andy has lived and breathed all his life. He’s stood and watched it all with top, top defenders doing it against the top, top strikers.

“We are constantly in communication before, during and after games. At training we talk about movement and our shape, taking away the actual goalkeeping side of things.

“As you can imagine on that side of things, he’s fantastic for our goalkeepers. We are always talking about defensive shapes and passing on and showing inside.

“He’s a real bonus for us. But we have Kiegan there as well who has so much experience of preparing for games and playing them under pressure. Whenever you arrive at a game, the preparation starts from the warm-up.”

Campbell was pleased with the effort from his side and hailed the welcome Saturday’s hosts provided.

“As a team we started the match very well,” explained Campbell. “We put some real pressure on St Cadoc’s in the first half, certainly early doors. We must have had seven or eight corners in a row.

“We were really pushing hard and scored two good goals to take us into half-time 2-0 ahead. We deserved to go back to the changing room two goals in the lead.

“But St Cadoc’s made some changes to try and get back into the game which we knew was inevitable. But overall we deserved the win. We didn’t have any bad individual performances.

“The welcome and treatment we had was spot-on. The St Anthony’s guys are supporting St Cadoc’s at the minute as they are ground sharing, so a huge thank you to them.”

Camby take a break from league action this week to compete in the WoSFL Cup away to Larkhall Thistle.

Campbell added: “We will need to be on our toes again and be prepared. We have to make sure we are ready for it.”
