Queen’s Park head coach Laurie Ellis was left lamenting the woodwork after a goalless derby draw with Clyde on Saturday.

Bully Wee captain David Goodwillie missed a penalty in the second half but the Spiders also came close in the League One encounter as Stuart Morrison and Michael Doyle both cracked the crossbar.

It’s the eighth time in 14 league matches that Queen’s Park have drawn this season, but they remain third and three points off league leaders Airdrie. Their last match prior to the Clyde draw was a 1-1 affair with East Fife.

Ellis said:“We are really disappointed not to take three points from the game. It’s a game we came into wanting to go after those points from the first whistle. The players gave everything, first half.

“We had lots of opportunities to score, so the one thing we were missing at half-time were those goals. As the second half developed, we hit the bar twice. That was disappointing and frustrating.

“The game develops further and it opens up a bit more as we then start going for it. That left us with some risks at the other end of the pitch as well.

“Hitting the woodwork twice is really frustrating. We’ve done that a few times this season but then we get fortunate with them missing a penalty. Although I didn’t feel it was penalty.”

Clyde gaffer Danny Lennon also felt his side deserved to take maximum points from the encounter.

“We are very pleased with the clean sheet, but we probably had the two best chances in the game and we are disappointed not to take all three.

“I thought it was a real good tactical game, but on the second half performance I thought we deserved it.

“I thought it was a great wee derby. The fans gave absolutely everything and, unfortunately, nobody goes away with the bragging rights. “There’s certainly a lot to build upon.” Clyde, who sit 11th in League One, now face a bottom of the table clash when they host East Fife on Saturday, Peterhead come next for the Spiders at Balmoor.
