PETERHEAD ............................................ 2 QUEEN’S PARK ....................................... 1 Ben Banks

Queen’s Park boss Laurie Ellis admits his side have to be more ruthless after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Peterhead.

Luca Connell put the Spiders ahead at Balmoor but Peterhead’s Scott Brown and Russell McLean struck after half time to leave Queen’s without a win in five League One matches.

They now sit fourth in the table and five points off first place Cove Rangers.

Ellis said:“As a group and to a man, we are really disappointed. We had come up with a really positive approach to the game and we prepared well in training in the week leading up to it.

“We created chances in the first half and we went in at half-time 1-0 up, which we were very pleased about. We wanted a real reaction second half to try and take us to a new level.

“Unfortunately Peterhead turned it around and we’ve come back down the road with nothing. I think Peterhead upped their energy in the second half and they pressed us.

“They really went for it but we have to be able to deal with that. That’s both as a man and as a team. We’ve got to be able to deal with that pressure and use the space that it leaves.

“We didn’t do that and we didn’t control the second half at all. We had our chances in the first half and the boys know that they should be burying them.

“We have to make the most of those moments.”

Spiders now take a break from league action to compete in the Scottish Cup third round when Championship side Kilmarnock travel to Firhill this Saturday.

Ellis added:“We’ll train hard all week and we’ll put a team on the pitch next week that is ready to take on Kilmarnock. They need to give it their best for the club and for the badge.”
