Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell admits it was a proud moment whenJay Nelson put his side 2-0 up at DalryThistle onSaturday, scoring their 99th goal in all competitions this season.
At the other end, AndyWilson was recording aclub record eighth consecutive clean sheet, which is hardly surprising since Camby haveconceded just 15 goals all season.
Add to the mix that Campbell’s side wentsevenpoints clear at the top of the West ofScotland LeagueConferenceB table, andit’s easy to see why he’s happy with his lot.
“We’re reallypleased with what we re doing,”he said.“Jay’s goal on Sunday was our 99thgoal forinall competitio ’n s this season, with 15conceded, and that backed up the eight gamesin a row withoutconceding a goal as well.
“We’re reallypleased with what we’re doing, and I don’tknow where it stands in any other division, butit’s still a decent returnfor what we’ve been doing so far.
“I think the guys are enjoying their play; when we goa goal up they’re working hard in keeping their foot on the gas, to keep improving.
“There’s no real desire, in termsof goal targets, it’s just that we wantto win, but they’ve gotin the frameof mind that if they do go ahead they keep driving you, so it’s reallypositive.
“We’reoneoff 100in a season, which is a decent return in any division, especially when we’rein November and have a wee bit to go.”
Campbell says he was especially pleased with Saturday’swin, because it was merited.
He said:“We did very well, and I’m verypleased with it.First and foremost, you take a 1-0 or a 10-0 just now, it’s not about how many goals you score, you’re just trying to win the games.
“We try to play the best football we can, and I think the guys managed the game very well.
“We defended well and scored a great goal in each halffromScott Williamson and young Jay Nelson.
“Both goals were excellent, so we’re reallypleased overall.
“I’m glad we came away with a win, because we certainly deserved it.”
Cambynow prepare fora visit by Glasgow United onSaturday, and Campbell says the biggest hurdle is not being distracted by other teams.
He said:“We can’taffect what everybody else does in the league, we just need to keep doing ourown stuff, plodding away and working hard, so that’s what we’re absolutelyfocused on.”
