Scottclaims Cambuslang playeraward
Cambuslang Rangers have crowned defender/striker Scott Anson their player of the month for November.
The West of Scotland Conference B side are currently seven points clear at the top of the table and Anson has been a major factor in keeping them there with seven goals this month – and five of them coming in the 7-0 win over ArdeerThistle.
Anson has played much of this season in defence to help out with injuries at the back, but when he was thrust forward into his natural position, it paid huge dividends for the club.
And Camby co-boss Billy Campbell, who presented Anson with his award last week, heaped praise on his utility man.
He said:“Scott’s five goals in that game obviously played a big part in it, but he’s been a real key player for us.
“He’s played a lot of the season filling in for us at the back and when we put him up front in his usual position he goes and scores five goals for us.
“He scored the week previous to that as well so he’s contributed a lot over that period.
“It’s very well deserved and he’s done a great job not just in November, but since he came here.
“He knows what’s required, his attitude is spot on and it’s great to have him in our squad.”
Cambuslang were sidelined at the weekend as their league clash with Glasgow United at Somervell Park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
It was the club’s final home match of the year, as they now visit Larkhall in the West of Scotland League Cup this weekend and close out the year on December 18 away to Renfrew in the league, and Campbell had no complaints with the call.
He added:“It was the right decision with the heavy rain that fell on Friday and the morning of the game.
“There were areas of the park that were holding water pretty badly with over an hour until kick-off, so there was a good chance if we did start, the game would have been stopped.
“Both camps absolutely backed the referee, as much as we were desperate to play the game.
“That’s the joy of winter in the west of Scotland.
“Hopefully the weather holds up this week.
”The team is in good shape. There’s a couple of tight groins here and there but we’ve not got any issues for the Larkhall game and we are looking forward to that now.”
