Group spread Xmas cheer

- EMMA LAWSON

A group of local people pulled together to help those in need just in time for Christmas.

The Croftfoot Quad Hub organised the now annual ‘Share and Care’ event with singers, toys, selection boxes and non-perishable foods helping to spread some cheer to those in need.

Arts and crafts were also set up for children. The charity effort was inspired by the levels of poverty in the community.

Share and Care asks those who can to give what they can towards their efforts, before inviting those less well off to come and take what they need.

A Share and Care volunteer told the Reformer: “There were around 20 volunteers on the day and people who come along roll up their sleeves and help out all for free.

“There are so many people to thank for their time and help. Stacey Anderson, Natali Milligan and Cathy Milligan along with loads of others like Jodie Armor, Paddy McKenna, Margaret Forrester, Isabel Farrell Anne Kerr, Paula Fumme, Brogan Macaloon and John and Carol Cooper.

“They have all helped out and we couldn’t have done it without them.”

The Share and Care appeal has been running for the last few years, with resources coming from the community and local projects, such as Castlemilk Together Food Poverty.

They received a variety of different donations this year for their event including from workers at Victoria Hospital who provided them with Asda vouchers and colouring pens.

Help also came from Jane Taylor Sheltered Housing, who donated adult colouring books and gift bags as well as many others who have donated.

The volunteer added:“The aim of the group is to show solidarity to those who are struggling and let them know they’re not alone.”

Volunteers came up with the ‘take what you need idea’ and applied for a community grant in April, receiving £200 to set up an outdoor shelf and place food on it to take for those who need it. Since then the initiative has been going from strength-to-strength, and “anyone from anywhere” can come and take whatever they need.
