CAMBUSLANG RANGERS ................... 3 WISHAW .................................................. 2

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell criticised his side for an ‘inconsistent’3-2 win over Wishaw in the Kilmarnock Pie West of Scotland Cup second round, but is pleased to be through to the quarter-finals.

Campbell says it showed that the Wee Rangers hadn’t played for a couple of weeks, but there were plenty of positives to be taken out of the game.

The Conference B champions host Conference A side Craigmark Burntonians on Saturday, and Campbell hopes they can negotiate their way to the semi-finals.

Jack McLarty opened the scoring, and Gary Giffin hit a double, before Wishaw grabbed two goals back.

Campbell said:“We looked as if we hadn’t played for a couple of weeks, to be honest.

“We played decent in spells and not so decent in other spells, so it wasn’t an overly consistent performance at all, and we had a wee chat about that after the game with the guys.

“I’m obviously pleased that we won, and we made some changes to give three of the young lads a wee kick of the ball, which probably impacted on it and unsettled everyone.

“It wasn’t our best, but credit to the guys – we still came away with the win and move on to the next round.

“I’m pleased overall. It wasn’t an overly consistent performance over the 90 minutes, but we still got the win, so Paul [co-boss McColl] and I are not going to be overly critical.”

Campbell expects a test from Craigmark, but hopes Cambuslang continue their excellent form this term.

He added:“We’ll have a couple of sessions this week to prepare for the next round, which is this weekend against Craigmark at home.

“It will be a really tough game, we’ll get prepared for it, so we’re ready.

“We just need to do a wee bit of work, maintain the fitness and standards, get into Saturday and see where it takes us, but we’re looking forward to it.”
