Restaurant plans for car wash site
A former car wash site could be turned into a takeaway restaurant under new plans.
A proposal has been lodged with South Lanarkshire Council to convert the Rutherglen location into a new eatery, with nine car parking spaces.
Several objections from residents in the Burnside area have already been received by the local authority, with locals concerned that the Stonelaw Road site would have a negative impact on the area.
The proposal, presented by the firm Keith Edwards Architect on behalf of a Mr M Naveed, is to be a singlestorey structure with direct access from the pavement to the front door and a secondary door leading from
the car park area.
The restaurant would be able to seat 40 people, with an open kitchen area, while the rear door of the building will have a waiting area for people to collect their takeaways from.
There will be toilets in the building as well, and an in and out system for vehicle movement along with some parking for cars and bicycles.
Illuminated signs would also be present to help advertise the eatery.
Four letters in support of the plans have also been submitted to the council.
One objector wrote: “Burnside currently has a number of restaurants and takeaways. It most certainly does not need a fast food takeaway with the associated increases in traffic, noise and litter that these places inevitably bring.”
Another added: “The proposed exit from the car park on to the access road at Stonelaw Towers will further restrict already vastly restricted parking for residents. It will likely result in a vast increase in traffic in what is currently a quiet access road.
“This will cause increased dirt and pollution, noise, disruption, loss of amenity, and loss of privacy to residents of Stonelaw Towers. The double sided illuminated sign by the roadside is likely to be an eyesore and out of keeping with the area.”
One supportive resident wrote: “I would welcome another restaurant in Burnside. It would be great for the Main Street. We only have one restaurant and we badly need somewhere else to socialise/eat out locally. “
