Asda spread some jubilee cheer by helping organise events to mark the historic occasion.

The store’s Toryglen community champion, Elizabeth Arbuckle (pictured above), worked with a primary school and other organisations to sort celebrations for the platinum jubilee, after the Asda Foundation donated £1600 for them to celebrate.

Elizabeth worked with Glasgow’s Golden Generation, Peoples Past Peoples Future and Cathkin Primary School to help plan several parties in honour of the Queen.

Grants of £500 were issued to Glasgow’s Golden Generation and Peoples Past Peoples Future, with £600 donated to Cathkin Primary School.

The £500 donation allowed Glasgow’s Golden Generation to host a tea dance at the David Cargill Centre, for over 100 patrons from three different elderly groups.

The group was greeted by alpacas and treated to soup and sandwiches, cake, and entertainment (pictured below).

Cathkin Primary hosted a street party for their pupils and their families with all involved enjoying a lovely afternoon out.

Meanwhile children at Bankhead Primary School in Rutherglen celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a party.

Head teacher Gerry Hamill, said: “The idea came about for the jubilee party after having a conversation with the parent council. They asked if we would do something and from there we got a group together in the school and got started.

“It was the first time that we’ve welcomed parents back in the school since Covid and a lot of them came and so did the local community.

“The students were having a tea party, ice cream and went to get their photos taken with the balloons. We had activities from the past as well, like old time games like hopscotch.

“The inside of the school was full of the students’ Jubilee artwork.

“It was a great day, it really brought the community together.”
