Mablethorpe Rally

A location just getting ready to close for the winter at an out of season Lincolnshire seaside resort in mid-November doesn’t sound too appealing does it? But for those that have attended VFM’s previous End of Season rallies to Mablethorpe there was an ai

VFM’s end of season run in Lincolnshire.

Although the weather was unpredictable to say the least, the Haven Golden Sands Resort was soon welcoming a steady trickle of scooterists ready for action. By 3pm the front office was busily handing out cabin keys and the venue was already blasting out hot scootering tunes. This continued throughout the afternoon and by early evening everything was set-up for a top night. Boasting no fewer than three internal do’s, the venue was a hive of activity. A ‘fully vinyl’ Soul Ballroom, Phil Bush’s antiques Pressure road-show and a large ‘Mixture’ main room with the regular DJ team meant you were spoilt for choice. Add to that two live bands; a mod/indie outfit called The Scandals from the North East and a very soulful Dexys Bootleg Runners – There, There My Dear! – and you had an infectious cocktail many were more than happy to overdose on.

The next morning, although very chilly, saw the main room transformed into a large parts and trade fair. Outside a small but interesting ridden custom show set up but after a brief look around most people remained inside, happy to keep warm at the ample bar/cafe. Like previous years, VFM thought outside the box with regards to the Saturday afternoon entertainment. After a rockabilly outfit and Elvis tribute had gone down so well in the past, they decided to stick with the R‘n’ R formula and put on a Johnny Cash duo. Once again this worked perfectly, and although quite a few punters had made their way down to the nearby town centre, many were kept on site with the dulcet tones of the Men in Black.

That night it was back to the same music triathlon, live acts came in the form of The Beautiful Sound and Extra Specials, both of whom did exactly what their names suggest. As usual quite a few people decided to finish the year off in fancy dress, and this just added to the party spirit. Some however did take it a bit far and I would like to add that this was nothing to do with VFM! So for me, another great finish to a fantastic year which for some, myself included, has been a bit different because of circumstances. I’m pretty sure almost all of the available caravans here were filled, so if you are interested in attending 2016’s event I would book early. With global warming it should be 24-25 degrees next year, so hopefully a few more scooters may be there!
