AJS vs Scomadi

-

Sir, over recent years your fine magazine has included many features and articles relating to the Scomadi scooter, but you appear to have ignored what has become the biggest selling retro-styled auto scooter in the UK, the AJS Modena. Why? After all both are Chinese built, plastic bodied 125cc, twist and go scooters. Okay, I admit that the Scomadi is more refined with a rear disc brake set up adjustable dampers etc. But does that justify it being 125% more expensive?

Come on Scootering, why not do an unbiased head-to-head shootout, as you have with other marques in the past.

I currently own two Modenas and a PX200 and have covered over 6000 trouble free miles over the last three years on my oldest Modena including a return ride from Stoke to Southampton, just short of 400 miles, so I can certainly attest to their reliability. Hi Paul, Thanks for the letter, and what a great point you raise. It is worth noting that the Scomadi scooter is to date, as far as most people are concerned, the only modern scooter which actually looks anything like a classic Lambretta, despite previous incarnations bearing the Lambretta badge. This, along with it being a very new machine, probably accounts for the large amount of coverage it has received. But don’t despair, once this edition is off to press, I shall be on the phone to see if the UK dealer wants to lend us a scooter for such an event and I’d be happy to get them head-to-head. Dan
