Scootering

A WORD FROM LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARES SC

-

Mersea Island Scooter Rally is without a doubt our most loved rally of the season. We’ve been going for years, and once again it was one to remember. This year’s 440 mile round trip unusually saw zero breakdowns which was a great result. On Friday night we watched a band called The Talks who nailed it; playing mostly ska music and then out of the blue they rocked out Voodoo People by The Prodigy which made the place go wild. That of course set us up nicely for the Darkside Tent (silent disco) which was hailed the place to be on the island, and it was!

Saturday, we spent the morning looking around some quirky scoots in the custom show, a browse round the stalls, watch the dyno and then onto the games. The games were, as always, the highlight of the rally. We had Loggies Jig and Charlie surprise us all coming out dressed as little old ladies, and watching them do Beer and Bananas was extremely amusing. This year we took part in every game and came home with two beautiful trophies, winning the Where’s Me Beer and Wheel Me Over games. Braintree Breakfast Scooter Club demolished us at tug-of-war and The Destitutes beat our two little old ladies in Beer and Bananas. However, win or lose it was all fun; club morale was high, we cheered each other on, got drunk, belly laughed, most of us threw up, got covered in egg and made plenty of new friends. On Saturday night it was all back to the Darkside Tent for another messy one. Silent wasn’t quite the word to describe the tent with everyone singing loudly along. Two different stations played everything we wanted to hear. It was an immense weekend and thanks to Colchester DVLC for having us back and looking after us or rather, destroying us. We’ll see you all again next year once we’ve recovered. Jamie
