Mid Cheshire Charity Scooter Rally

- Tim Henshall

Neither Brexit nor the inclement weather affected the numbers attending the fourth Mid Cheshire Charity Scooter Rally at Blakemere Village in Cheshire. In fact, fans of the headline act on Saturday night, Diane Shaw, swelled the numbers significantly. Supported by the Lazzy Band, Johnny Boy and Lovely Blue Skies she had the showground buzzing. Also performing at the rally were The Start, the Deadbeat Descendants and Amplify Music Project.

There have been excellent reviews on the rally Facebook site and the organisers, the Rotary Club of Northwich Vale Royal felt very proud when one guest said: “This is now the flagship event of the scooter rally calendar.” The Michelin Challenge Cup awarded to the winners of the tug-of-war proved again to be very popular and very noisy. The victors this year were The Ace of Spades Club from St Helens, Merseyside.

The classic and custom show entrants were oblivious of the early morning rain and this year included a very rare Raleigh Roma in original condition. The Rock Oil Special Lambretta made a final appearance in the roll-a-dice competition but despite the ‘odds’ improving with the number of sixes required reduced from seven to six, no one was lucky enough to win it. The beer festival once again won universal approval and despite copious amounts alcohol being consumed the weekend passed trouble free.

A fantastic event, but the future of the MCCSR was put in doubt as the owners of Blakemere Village announced that a planning application had been submitted to build houses on the site. We will keep everyone informed as things progress via the website www.MCCSR.co.uk.
