WHY CAN’T I BUY ONE?

-

Unless you’re fortunate enough to find a dealer with unsold stock, buying a new Scomadi can be a bit of a challenge with demand consistently outstripping supply. As Scomadi’s operations director Kay Sanderson explained, demand for the firm’s scooters is still soaring: “To date, every machine we’ve produced has sold almost instantly. That’s the main reason for moving production over to Thailand as we’ll then have a much larger production capacity.”

Although Thailand may not seem an obvious location for large scale motorcycle manufacture, it actually is the obvious choice. Amata City, where Scomadi’s new factory is situated, is already home to such companies as Triumph, Bosch, and BMW. There’s a huge engineering infrastructure in place and a wealth of expertise, both local and international. “Initially we’ll resume production of the Euro 3 models,” said Kay. “They can still be sold in large parts of Asia meaning we can iron out any production line problems with an established design and then we’ll incorporate Euro 4 modifications.”

So far as 2017 deliveries to the UK are concerned Kay’s advice is to keep in touch with local dealers. “We don’t take deposits on machines with no delivery date,” said Kay. “That leads to frustration for everyone concerned. The first people to know when deliveries are due will be our dealers. There’ll be machines delivered this year so speak with your local supplier, register an interest and they’ll keep you informed.”
