Name: Gary Dickenson Job: Tool maker. Scooter club & town: Solihull. How did you first become interested in

scooters: I’m not ashamed to say that watching Quadrophenia on Betamax in the early 1980s was the catalyst but seeing all the scooters parked up outside a local pubs in Wythall and Birmingham was the turning point. What is your favourite style of custom

scooter: I’m very open-minded on that subject, everything from a trick but well-engineered chop to a Series 1 with a selection of period and tasteful enhancements. First rall: Isle of Wight 1983, on the back of a mate’s GP200. What’s the furthest you’ve ever ridden on

miles a scooter: through More northern than 700 Spain enjoyable a few (the years wife). ago two-up with Alison Favourite custom scooter of all time:

Impossible to choose but if you put a gun to my head and made me decide… Sign of the Snake. If you had to recommend one scooter part or item of riding kit what would it

be: Apart from a good set of waterproofs, Tyre Goop (other brands are available)... What’s the most useless part you’ve ever bought for one of your scooters:

120mph speedo.

Name of scooter & reason: Hush – my favourite episode of Buffy from 20 years ago (yes I am a geek!). Inspiration for project: Conversations with Martin Robinson and Matt (I-Paint.net). Engine: ‘Misano’ Super Monza 225. Is the scooter reliable: So far so good! Chrome: Urban Scooters Birmingham. Overall cost: £12,000, excluding my time! Do you have any advice or tech tips for

anyone starting a project: Don’t expect to have it done within the time you’ve set yourself because it probably won’t be, just be patient. Do a dry build, bolt everything together (including the engine) before it goes to get painted. This simple step will save you time, trouble and money. Is there anything still to add to the scoot:

A long range tank, if I can find a shapely enough one. In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently: Not at the moment but time will tell. Is there anyone you wish to thank: Matt at I-Paint, the Robbo Speed chaps, Jon at Urban scooters and ‘Big John’ Deeley for all their help.
