Scootering

Guernsey Scooter Rally

- Jason Shambrook Guernsey Scooter Rally Committee

This year we couldn’t have asked for better weather, when more than 100 scooterists arrived in the Channel Islands for the seventh annual Guernsey Scooter Rally. The Guernsey Scooter Rally offers idyllic riding conditions with twisting roads and spectacular scenery. Combine that with 27 beaches, fantastic bars and restaurants and you have a weekend (or a week for some) that is pretty hard to beat on the scootering calendar.

The local roads smelt of two-stroke from mid-day Thursday as the majority started to arrive and make their way to the central venue at L’Eree Bay. Friday night’s entertainment was served up by local band Last of the Light Brigade, ably supported by High Voltage, featuring some young musical talent who had been at school that day!

Bleary eyed, people started appearing throughout the morning ready for the ride-out, which took in the best sights the island has to offer. This year’s rally finished in a cliff top field with views over the bay. The rest of the day was spent eating and drinking local produce in fantastic hot sunshine until people had no choice but to head back to the venue for a much needed freshen up before local ska band Sons of the Desert took to the stage.

As people waited for their ferry, the Guernsey Soul Collective ran an all-day event in St Peter Port which was well received and gave another chance for people to bask in the hot summer sun listening to soul classics.

A week later we bumped into a scooterist who had been across for 10 days.

It shows the lure of the Island – great for a scooter rally weekend but you will want to stay longer!

See you early next July.
