Costa Blanca Scooterists tour of Ibiza
After last year’s successful first outing to Ibiza, the Costa Blanca Scooterists left for the Torrevieja area and again toured that beautiful Balearic island.
This time 10 intrepid scooterists made the journey, twice the 2016 number: Sean, Dave, Vince, Malcolm and Alex joined Pete, Billy, Paddy, Darren and John for the 2017 CBS Tour. The Costa Blanca Scooterists – aka ‘CBS’ scooter group has been running on the central south coast of Spain for over three years. We meet in the town of San Miguel near Torrevieja most Sunday mornings, to go out for a run with like-minded lads, sometimes meeting up with our Spanish counterparts – that’s what we do. With over 100 of us on our Facebook page, CBS Scooterists are a blend of new and old: Vespas, Lambrettas and Scomadis, and our age range is about 50 (ish) plus. Oh, and sometimes the ladies join us too. Ibiza was stag, though, and a whole load of fun! Vince had provided us with special shirts this time, one black and one white with the tour map on the back… cool, eh?
On September 24 the Terrific Ten set off early in good, if nippy weather, but soon the temperature began to climb back up to your normal glorious late-summer temperatures that we love here. However a police road block going into Alicante for some unknown reason diverted us slowly through the busy city centre. A few anxious glances at watches were noted, as we had a ferry to catch in Denia later in the afternoon, but apart from a couple of belly and machine refuelling stops the stalwart CBS caught up, and we made the 6.30pm ferry easily. The aquatic journey takes about three hours from the lovely port of Denia, and on alighting in Ibiza town in the dark we had about an hour’s run right up to the north of the island, where we had two apartments booked, this year in the small resort of Portinatx. Our leader, ‘Herr Heyes’ (HH, or… Pete) comes into his own at such times. He has a blue tooth or something to navigate us anywhere successfully, and he did it again, as usual to perfection, bless him.
However, NOT down to HH, the accommodation which had been booked as a four bed and a six bed apartment proved a somewhat challenging description! In the end we went for five and five, with two (unnamed) friends sharing a double bed... say no more.
