Inspiration for project: Hammer Horror films, I used to love them as a kid. Time to build & by who: About six or seven months in the spare bedroom by myself. Any specialised parts or frame mods: No specialised parts, just wanted to keep it 80s style. Engine spec: Kit: AF200 Race Rapido. Crank: AFR Race Crank. Carb: 28mm Dellorto. Exhaust: Stainless JL3. Clutch: Standard. Gearbox: GP 200 with upgraded gearing. Describe engine performance, power delivery and scooter handling: Designed for a comfortable ride. It’s not a speed machine, I have a street racer for that! Top & cruising speed: Sits comfortably at around 60-65mph, top speed is probably around 70-75mph. Is the scooter reliable: Yes, so far so good. Paintwork & murals done by: Green metal flake done by Freddy Holden, and the murals by Gatch. Is there any powder coating: Powder coating by Areocoat – first class job. Overall cost: About £50. I said that whatever I spent on the scooter, I would spend the same amount on my wife… Hardest part of the project: Making the parts fit after powder coating. Do you have any advice or tech tips for anyone starting a project: Don’t rush, that’s when mistakes happen. Anything still to add to the scoot: I’m always on the lookout. In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently: Not starting it in spare room; man, my wife was not happy. Is there anyone you wish to thank: Paul Elwood for all his help and telling me green is unlucky and will make it break down. Matt Lambert for his advice and helping when I got stuck. Anglia Scooters for parts and advice. Gatch for his ideas and making it work. Michael Godfrey for his endless spare parts and sense of direction... Not! And last but not least, Kato the cat for finding the bolt I dropped on the carpet late one night as it was the only one I had.
