OWNER DETAILS

-

Name: Paul Lowden Job: MAC operator. Scooter club & town: Oxford Roadrunners SC, Oxford. Other club member: Fabric and Big Beat Boutique. How and when did you first become interested in scooters: 17 thru punk, psychobilly, 2-Tone at school. Your first scooter: PX with MDP 180 kit. Cut it down and chopped it when the indicators stopped working. Favourite scooter model: Lambretta GP. Your favourite style of custom scooter: I like trick engineered stuff, I like full blown customs, I like rats, I like anything where the owner has put their stamp on it, and I love 80s styling. First rally or event: Margate ’86. How did you get there: Back of a mate, Dave Brassington (RIP) and Alun Thomas – the Horny Rhinos SC were born. Any stories: When we landed in Margate, middle of the night we went straight down to the beach to have a look about. Got jumped by casuals on the sand, a few punches thrown and it was over. Scooter rallies – have it. Favourite and worst rally/event: They all kind of melted into one long scooter rally to be honest, every month off somewhere else in the UK. One bad Morecambe where it lashed it down and we slept in public toilets under the hand dryers to keep warm. Funniest experience with a scooter: This is a cracker… Did you hear the one about the highly respected engine tuner who gave you their word on turnaround time to be ready for IOW rally? …and then didn’t deliver, and still hasn’t. Absolutely hilarious. Furthest you’ve ever ridden on a scooter: Belgium/Amsterdam/Luxembourg. What do you like about rallies/events: Don’t get to do much nowadays, but the laughs with mates, the ride there and not so much the ride back home. What do you dislike about rallies/events: Feeling like you’ve been beaten up, when you haven’t been. My scooters tend to be boneshakers with the emphasis on style over practicality, coupled with hard floor tents, it all takes its toll nowadays.

Favourite Scootering magazine feature: I like the technical and custom features. Favourite custom/featured scooter of all time: Spiritwalker. What’s the most useless part you’ve ever bought for one of your scooters: On this build? A high quality fast flow fuel tap that became cross-threaded almost instantly. Legshield toolbox door lock with a locating catch simply doesn’t fit on the back of the lock.
