Scootering

SCOOTER DETAILS

-

Name of scooter & reason: Not got a name but theme is Gulf – Le Mans – Steve McQueen. I’ve always loved racing and the coolness of McQueen. Scooter model: Scomadi FP200. Date purchased: One of the first 100 FP 200 models, developed with crowd funding. Arrived June 2016 after an 18 month wait. Cost £4300. Inspiration for project: I wanted to do something different with the Gulf theme, as there are already a lot of stunning Gulf themed scoots out there and I didn’t want to copy. I wanted it to appeal to me. I couldn’t afford to spend the thousands that some scooterists do but when I showed Phil Appleyard of The Monster Forge my idea he was as enthusiastic and as passionate as I was to get the idea translated into reality. He was a true gent who stepped up to help out. I’ve always had tidy scooters but that normally been done being using vinyl. Time to build & by who: It’s taken about six months from idea to reality. Stripped, painted and rebuilt. Cheers Phil Appleyard. Describe engine performance, power delivery and scooter handling: Scooter is totally standard, it goes great without tuning. If it’s not broke don’t try and fix it I say. Too many scooters break due to people messing about with them unnecessarily. Top speed & cruising speed: Still running it in, I’m told they do 70mph so that’s cool. I’m happy at 60. Is the scooter reliable: Been brilliant so far. Paintwork & murals done by: Phil Appleyard – The Monster Forge, can’t thank this guy enough – superb to work with. Overall cost: About £5400 with all the extras. What was the hardest part of the project: Patience, lol. I messaged Phil every day for day to day photos of it developing. Do you have any advice or tech tips for anyone starting a project: Let the professionals do it for you – it’s worth any extra you may pay. Is there anything still to add to the scoot: Yes – helmet is being done to match. Some one-off pieces – grips, wheel cover and mirrors – Kris Green at Mental Engineering will be doing these but I’m skint at moment so that’s for the future. In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently: Not a thing, I love it as it is. Is there anyone you wish to thank: Phil at The Monster Forge. Stunning work, thank you so very much for making my dream a reality and being cool about the price. I think his prices are realistic and his work is amazing for what he’s charged, I think the prices he charges will have to go up now. Lee – seat and wheel cover, great service. John – leg shield cover, also fabulous.
