First of all, I’d like to wish all our members a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Thank you all for your support over the last 12 months.

Russ Machin brings us the latest news in the official VCB newsfeed.

What a busy year it’s been… we have a new president, Jo Turner, who is the first lady president of the VCB. This is obviously a milestone in the club’s history and shows we are moving forward in the 21st century.

Both the Two Channels Dash and The Cheshire 100 events were well attended and got great feedback from those who took part. British Vespa Days in Belfast was a huge success and raised around £10,000 for charity. The AGM and Christmas social in Sunderland went down well with a free raffle and buffet thrown in alongside the evening disco. Thanks to everyone involved in the organising of all these events.

The signing on events attracted greater numbers than ever and the Riders Regional competition also saw a huge increase in participants. Membership is continuing to rise and is now well over 3000 with nearly 400 branches with their own cog badge. We have had some long-standing committee members step down but they have been replaced by new members. It’s always difficult when committee members step down but conversely its good to get new people on board with fresh ideas to move the club forward.

Plans are already under way for next year’s events with British Vespa Days in Llangollen being the main event. Vespa World Days is taking place in Hungary in 2019 and many VCB members are already making plans to attend. New landmarks for the Riders Regional Competition are being added and a list of signing on events should be ready early in the new year. Full details of all the above will be in the next issue of Vespa News. All in all, the club is going well and the future looks rosy.

The Vespa Club of Britain is a members’ club, run by members for the members. Membership is open to anyone of any age who has an interest in Vespas. Membership costs just £16 a year for single membership and £26 for family membership. Membership entitles you to a patch, sticker and membership card when joining and six bi-monthly copies of Vespa News.

There is a members’ discount scheme and several events and competitions to take part in. Thanks again for your continued support, I’ll hopefully see you at a VCB event next year. For more information, contact russ@vespaclub.uk or club-sec@vespaclub.uk Russ Machin (VCB vice president)
