SCOOTER DETAILS

-

Name of scooter & reason: The Great Escape - Self-explanatory, it’s my favourite film. What other themes did you consider before coming to this choice of theme for the scooter and why did you go with your chosen theme: I was going to go with a Motown theme and then wife, knowing that ‘The Great Escape’ was my favourite film suggest that it would make a great theme and once she'd said it I just knew that was what I wanted. Scooter model: Lambretta GP 230 Date purchased & cost: 2008. It was blue and check I then changed it to red, white and black before it was The Great Escape. Inspiration for project and theme: I always wanted a themed scooter. At a charity raffle for Ady Thurland may wife, Karen won a prize, which had been donated by Dewey to have part painted by him. I was so impressed with his work I asked Dewey if he could do my whole Scooter. Dewey agreed and Karen paid for it for our Pearl Wedding anniversary prezzie. Time to build & by who: Linc's Lambretta did the engine rebuild and I put it all back together. Any specialised parts or frame mods. What & by whom: No specialised parts – as yet. Engine spec: Kit: 230. Carb: 30ml Exhaust: JL4. Clutch: Cassette Clutch AF1 Gearbox: SX. Porting by: Linc's Lambretta Describe engine performance, power delivery and scooter handling: Engine performance is still not 100% yet (still needs to be set up) but the scooter runs lovely and handles great. Top speed & cruising speed: Top: 86mph Cruising: 60 – 65mph Is the scooter reliable: Yes, apart from it’s using more fuel than it used to at the moment and it still needs fine tuning in the next few miles. Paintwork & murals done by: Dewey Franlkin. An absolutely fabulous guy and very, very talented. What was the hardest part of the project: Putting it all back together after it had been painted. Do you have any advice or tech tips for anyone starting a project: It costs more than you think, be prepared for about an extra grand. Is there anything still to add to the scoot: Yes, I’m thinking about having some more artwork on the runner boards… Is there anyone you wish to thank: My wife, Karen for making it possible to have my themed scooter, Dewey Franklin for doing such a fantastic paint job, Linc's Lambretta for rebuilding my engine, John Corcoran for pulling out all the stops and getting my riding covers done in time to take to Germany.
