Name of scooter & reason: ‘When Two Tribes Go To War’. It fits in with the miners’ strike of 1984-1985 Scooter model: PX Date purchased: Beginning of 2017 Inspiratio­n for project and theme: My father and my uncles were Welsh miners at Merthyr Tydfil in the 1930s. I also have a couple of close friends who are ex-miners and who went through the strike Time to build: Started in January 2017 and took about a year Any specialise­d parts or frame mods? What & by whom: Back rack in the shape of a coal sack barrow. Keith Newman choke taps, laser cut plate on the horn cast, plaque on the backrest and number plate surround. Custom King & Queen Seat (embroidery by Corky). Original miner’s pit check/lamp token at the top of the horn cast Engine spec: Kit: SIP 177. Carb: Up-jetted standard. Exhaust: Sterling. Clutch: Standard Gearbox: Standard Describe engine performanc­e, power delivery and scooter handling: I’m running it in at the moment, but it’ll be ready for next year’s rallies. Everything seems okay so far Is the scooter reliable: So far, so good Paintwork & murals done by: Gatch Is there any engraving done: Kevin Adams (Hull) Is there any powder coating: CJ Powder coating, Grimsby Is there any chrome: Quality Chrome, Hull What was the hardest part of the project: Getting the detail correct and delivering the impact of the theme in a way that draws the onlooker to the scooter Do you have any advice or tech tips for anyone starting a project: Have an outline of how you’re going to approach the project. Even consider putting pictures on the scooter in the places where you’re going to have the murals and the artwork, to make sure they all work together. Don’t rush it, and shop around!
