A warm welcome to the May edition of Scootering
What a year 2019 is set to be. There are so many anniversaries for clubs, DJs, bands, scooter models. It makes it a difficult choice to decide which articles to feature. This month we make mention of Leicester Phoenix SC, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary, as well as legendary Wigan Casino DJ Dave Evison, who is celebrating 50 years in the music business! That number puts Dave in good company, as Stu Owen takes a look at 50 years of the Lambretta Grand Prix. As Stu points out, half a century has passed since Innocenti released its final piece of scooter design, one which has endured the test of time and achieved legendary status. A certain GP in particular, though, which I am delightedt to see back on the customm scene, is our very own ‘Scooterotica’. That is certainly a machine which I thought would never be back on the roads, but I was wrong (not for the first time). See the full story on page 28.
Anniversaries and celebrations aside, the rest of the mag is also, once again, looking mighty good. The cover scooter, also a GP, which fits in nicely with this month’s theme, is an absolute stunner. A relative newcomer to the scooter scene, Darryl has certainly not let that detail prevent him from putting together a show stopping scooter, one which pays homage to the late, great Ayrton Senna. We have a plethora of submissions for Show Us Your Scooters, which meant we had to stretch it to six pages for the first time ever. You may also have noticed that over the past year our good friend, the Italian Stallion Christian Giarrizzo, did not submit so much work as usual. His Italian accent and broken English helped to shine through in his passionate view of the scooter world, and he was missemissed by many. Now he’s back from his tra av els, and the stories of his adv ve ntures are coming in thick and f as st… so this month we featured tw wo of them, just to try and catch c up! Anyway, that’s enough of my ramblings, it’s another belter this month. Enjoy the issue. Dan D
