More autos!
I have to agree with Brian Russell’s letter in the November issue. These days there seems to be few test ride reports of new scooters on the market – granted that most are automatic. Such reports seem to have disappeared with the demise of Twist and Go, so I would’ve thought going forward, Scootering may have been a combination of both. Sadly not to be. Like Brian comments, an article on the Royal Alloy 300 would be good. And the new Lambretta, not the old “new” Lambretta. An article on the origins of Royal Alloy for instance; a comparison of the new variants of the new Vespa HPE, for instance, what you get on the Sport as compared to the Touring. While acknowledging that autos make up an increasing number of attendees at rallies, the magazine seems mainly devoted to classic two-strokes. I have to say rally reports (unless you were there) and loads of custom scooters hold little appeal to me, but each to their own. The only two articles that held my attention in the November edition were the Vespa 448 and Bonneville Record Breakers.

Hi Ian, thanks for the letter. Classic two-strokes, custom scooters and rallies may not hold your attention… but they do appeal to many (most?). Also, Scootering (both the magazine and the scene) is a broad church, so we try to make sure we offer something for everyone. It seems we managed that for you with the Salt Flats and the Vespa Twin articles at least. In regard to autos, fear not… the RA300 review is coming, and our opening feature this month in Kickstart is Stan’s year-end review of the GTS HPE… so stick with us, we are getting there! Regards
