LEGACY ISSUES

-

Talk of Scomadi’s bright future is all very exciting, but what’s to become of existing customers? Ask a TL owner for their experiences over the past two years and the answer may not be complimentary. “I can’t lie,” said Kaye, whose responsibilities include managing legacy issues. “The court settlement terms presented some real challenges in managing both warranty claims and supplying spare parts. It may not always have seemed like it but British riders have been in a better position than those in some other countries.” By this Kaye referred to spares which had been stockpiled at the old Galgate distribution centre. When the old distribution company was wound up, these were sold in their entirety to Modern Scooters in New Malden. Dealing with warranty issues and components such as complete engines has been more complicated.

Even though most TLs are now out of warranty, Kaye and her team have maintained close relationships with dealers and distributors. “We’ve just shipped several complete engines from the factory to the UK and those are the last major warranty issues that I’ve been made aware of.”

Frank has also turned his mind to keeping TLs on the road. “Like all manufacturers we continually improve our product but also understand that not everyone can afford to replace their scooter every couple of years. Wherever possible we’ve designed components that can be retrofitted, for example a TT body kit will fit a TL. Owners may also be interested to hear that fitting a standard TT exhaust will give a slight boost in performance.”

Finally Kaye would like to reassure TL riders that they haven’t been forgotten.

“We’ve never taken their loyalty for granted and the continued supply of TL compatible parts is a real priority for all of us.”
