OWNER DETAILS

-

Name: Peter Martin.

Job: Builder.

Scooter club & town: Cheadle Scooter Club, Staffordshire.

First interest in scooters: 1979; through following The Jam, The Who and Northern Soul music.

First scooter: Vespa P200E.

Favourite style of custom scooter: Malossi racing scooter.

First ever rally: 1981 Scarborough Easter Rally.

How did you get there: Rode on my scooter.

Any funny stories: Got woken up in the middle of the night by rockers rolling boulders down a hill on to our tents!

Least favourite rally: Keswick, when the police marched through all the tents and flattened them because they didn’t want scooters in their town.

Funniest experience involving

scooters: A mate was riding his scooter in a group of us, he pulled up at a roundabout and one of the turn-ups on his trousers got caught on a loose bolt on his scooter. He couldn’t put his foot down and promptly fell sideways to the amusement of everyone and about one hundred people outside the adjacent pub!

Furthest you’ve ever ridden on a scooter: Keswick or Scarborough from Cheadle.

What do you like about rallies: The music, fashion and the many different scooters and like-minded people who attend.

What do you dislike about rallies: The insecurity of having to leave your scooter parked up unattended.

Favourite Scootering magazine feature: Reading scooter profiles and the story behind the build/ customisation.

Favourite custom scooter of all time: Kevin Williams’ Two Tribes scooter, a tribute to the miners’ strike.

Your most recommended scooter part or related item: Get a decent seat, especially if riding two up on long journeys!

Most useless part you’ve ever bought for a scooter: Once bought a backrest, which on braking throws your pillion forward!
