Chipmunks SC celebrate 40 years, 1980-2020

-

This year our scooter club Chipmunks SC has been running for 40 years. That is 40 years of continuous membership and riding. We still have several of our original members. We started the Chipmunks in 1980 (although some of us had scooters from the early to mid-1970s) and we started attending seaside rallies in 1979. We always tended to chant, ‘Chipmunks are go’ from the first album by Madness when we were on rallies. We were looking for a name so Chipmunks it became. We had our helmets painted half red, half black with a silver stripe down the middle. Many clubs did this in the early days (Cloud 9, Scunthorpe Pathfinders, etc.) it used to look great to see a big club arrive at a seaside town, all with matching crash helmets. Over the years we have had several club patches, badges and stickers produced. The club membership has fluctuated over the years, we have unfortunately lost some good lads as well. We have a strong membership at present, most of us have been together for 20 years. These days we tend to do local ride-outs, club meet ups, charity rides and parts fairs/custom shows. We meet up at the Knot & Plough pub just outside Stafford on the last Sunday evening of the month (when we can). The age range of our club members is from 17-65 years. We wanted to do something to celebrate our 40thth anniversary and have a group photo. Due to the coronavirus, neither has been possible, hence the separate photos of us all. We have a wide range of scooters in the club, from early 1960s Lambrettas and Vespas to modern-day autos. That’s it from the e Chipmunks SC – here’s to another 40 years.
