SCOOTER SPEC

Name of scooter & reason: AlphaTauri F1 – this celebrates my passion for F1 and motor racing in general. This will be my sixth motor racing tribute.

Scooter model: 1978 GP – Vijay.

Date purchased & cost: April 2020 for £1600.

Inspiratio­n for project: Lockdown and pure boredom setting in while being on furlough.

Time to build & by who: Ten months by me and the Banbury guys helping out.

Any specialise­d parts or mods: Forks and front disc all done by Mike ‘The Bike’ Davis. Choke, fuel lever, carb grille, sprint rack, splash plate and front grille by Chas Speed. Rear light and grille frenched in. Vespa cut-down legshield toolbox welded in.

ENGINE SPEC

Kit: Imola 186 with Mammoth head and cowling. Carb: 30m Delly.

Clutch: AF clutch.

Ignition: BGM stator and lightened flywheel. Gearbox: GP200 gearbox.

Exhaust: JL3 pipe.

Porting work by: Tom Perry.

Dyno done by: Booked with Alan Terry, results to follow.

What brand of oil do you run: SIP @3%.

CHASSIS SPEC:

Tyres: S1s.

Rims: SIP tubeless with P Zero decals courtesy of Mike ‘The Bike’.

Suspension: BGMs front and rear.

Speedo: SIP.

Grips: TZR.

Levers: Pro Street.

Cable brand: MB.

Seat: One-off Snetterton by Chas Speed.

Fuel tank & Tap: Long-range 15-litre with SIP fast flow tap and low fuel indicator.

Brakes: Rear standard, front outboard disc.

Paintwork by: Paul at Roadrash Paintwork, great guy, to be honest, and really reasonable.

Powder coating by: Chas Speed and Banbury Powder Coating.

Hardest part of the project: Trying not to scratch it and all the delays due to the pandemic.

Tech tip or advice for anyone starting a project: Dry build, check, then check again and always use quality parts; they may be more expensive but it saves you buying twice.

In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differentl­y: No, loved every minute, it kept me sane during furlough.
