MAN & MACHINE

-

Name of scooter (reason & inspiration):

‘A Kind of 70s’ is a play on words. I was born in 1977, the Sprint is built in 1975. So I’m a ‘kid’ of the 70s, and so is the Sprint. The design motto picks up on this, and Kind in German becomes ‘kind’ in English.

In Germany we say: It’s ‘denglish’. The logo is graphically designed by a friend of mine. Scooter model: Sprint Veloce.

Time to build & by who: We started in October 2020. First we exchanged ideas and then dismantled the Sprint in November. Oh my God, there was rust everywhere. The actual rebuilding began in January 2021. In the end it will have been a year. I did the complete disassembly and assembly myself including the engine, but the sheet metal and bodywork as well as the main painting was carried out by the Rotärmel paint shop in Aachen. The design paint, the stripes, the airbrushes are all by Z-Design. There were still a few specialists who, for example, had to repair the seats of the seals or made adjustments to the fork. Basically 99% of the work was done by Michael Zinnen and me.

Do you have any advice or tech tips for anyone starting a project: Patience, time, money and then: patience, time, money... Is there anything still to add to the scoot: Maybe…

Is there anyone you wish to thank: Michael Zinnen – Z-Design is so creative, inspiring, but also meticulous and almost pedantic in his way that it is a pleasure and an honour to have been accompanied by him on this project. Without him there would be no ‘A Kind of 70s’.
