Time, Trouble and Money II

- Rich Addison

Known for presenting more than their fair share of quality Lambrettas at UK custom shows, Scunthorpe Silhouettes’ Lambretta Club members produced something very special at their second Time, Trouble and Money II event held at Brumby Hall Sports & Social Club in Scunthorpe.

The sun shone down on the camping site and the huge marquee as I arrived and wandered through the site, meeting old friends from this hotbed area of the country with scooter clubs from Nottingham, Newark, Lincoln, Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Hull, Grimsby and York. The campsite filled up and Taylor Tuning’s dyno was in place to pay tribute to scooterist Tik Tester and to provide some light entertainment with an HP challenge on some real beasts of engines transplanted into Lambretta frames.

The weekend’s live entertainment included Carl Morris, 76 Calling, The Odels, The Ultimate Stone Roses and Soul Intention, all providing live music from all genres on Friday and Saturday; there was also a function room in the main building with DJs playing non-stop tunes.

Rallies often have a core of club members working tirelessly in the event run-up and through the weekend, but with Dave Kirk, Col Westfield and Pete Sawczuk being long-standing Silhouettes, it was always going to be a success with their massive scooter passion and themselves owning possibly some of the most iconic Lambrettas over the years. This club has always had a large membership and some of the biggest characters in the scooter scene. All these guys mucked in to present a fantastic weekend even though after the lockdowns, rallies are being crammed into summer weekends and threatening to dilute the scene.

Their trump card was bringing Dave Dickinson along to become the show’s mainstay by providing a centrepiece surrounded by possibly the best collection of some spectacular machines from choppers to Model C Lambrettas plus a smattering of racing Lambrettas from the DTC BSSO racing team.

Chatting with Dave Kirk, he couldn’t have been prouder of what had been achieved; his only fear during the event run-up was getting all the custom-painted scooters he’d worked on together (his customers range far and wide across the country and organising them can be like herding cats sometimes). A busy man, he explained he was even working the night before until after 9pm on one of his latest masterpieces. He’s a really nice guy who’s produced many amazing custom paint scooters since the 1990s.

Always a target for me is a rally parts fair and this one didn’t disappoint with some quality stalls and meeting up with Keith at K2 (his smiling mug is always a pleasure).

As I walked back to the entrance gate, the banter was still being thrown around among the club crew. Well done to Silhouettes Freddy, Brad, Dale, Dean, Wilbur, Hendy, Rob, Eric, Jase, Slinger, Dave and many more for a top quality weekend.
