Bags of pear drops and then apple flapjacks. Turns a little malty with hints of damp wool jumpers. Those pear drops come through also rhubarb and custard hard candy sweets. Dried banana chops and cherry lozenges. Water lengthens all the notes and sweetens up the finish. Malty and creamy. Still waiting for this to become mature whisky, but it is big and bold, and has potential. Seaside minerality, salt cracker biscuits and then the peat. Pink grapefruit acidity and melted brown sugar sweetness. Smoked cod loin. The sweetness hits first. Orange juice with a lemon citrus tang. Grapefruit acidity is there too. Then the peat unfurls – turf block fires, burning hardwood logs and fresh laid tarmac. Long and all that peat is glorious. Smoke keeps unravelling. Like swallowing a cloud of peat smoke. There’s a little maltiness, in the vein of Ovaltine, and a delicate farmyard note. Very sweet and drinkable. One could be forgiven for thinking the ABV is far lower. That peach candy note is at the core, with the vegetal note barely detectable With water, the sweetness becomes icing sugar. Short to medium and lingering on that peach flavour. Fruity and robust. Quiet and restrained. Doesn't open up much at all. Cooked red berries and milky coffee. Muted wafts of vanilla. Coating, oily and altogether satisfying. Initially jammy toast. A little smokiness appears. It parts before too long, bringing wholegrain bread and tannins the dry a little. That smoke perseveres long into the finish, moving into herbal mown lawns. Smoke is pleasantly balancing to the other sweeter notes. Buckwheat pancakes topped with honeyed butternut squash and black pudding. Ginger infused maple syrup, toasted bamboo canes, pistachio ice cream and chilli & roasted pepper soup. A bitter and chalky texture. Mandarin pith and dark chocolate covered coffee beans Hobnobs served up with a coarsely ground espresso. A coconut ram packed with slices of bananas, kiwis and apricots. Strawberry jam spread on toasted brioche followed by creamy notes of white chocolate and bon bons. The fruits carry through spending some time stewing into sour plums and brambles soaked in cider vinegar. Earl grey, torched heather sprigs and hints of salted pork. A sour start lengthens into a milky finish Highlands Speyside ===== ===== Specialist, GTR, Worldwide Specialist, Palate: Palate: Worldwide Finish: Finish: 8.2 8.8 Comments: Comments: One serious fruity number. Christopher Christopher Nose: Nose: Toffee apple and sweet cider, Mr Sheen and strawberry laces. There’s plum wine and chocolate mousse, too. A touch hot, but great balance of red apple, caramel, and red berry winey notes. Bramble liqueur, glace cherry and cranberry cut through. Long, with a little tannin to balance the sweet fruit. Rich and indulgent. Black cherry, over-ripe strawberry and furniture polish. Orange zest and dark chocolate with honeycomb. Full flavoured, with zing! Plum wine, fresh blackberry, a little kiwi and aloe too. Becomes slightly nutty (walnut) as it dilutes, with milk chocolate and nutmeg. Long and satisfying, with the bramble jam and walnut. I think I’ll order a bottle Palate: Palate: Finish: Finish: 8.2 8.9 Comments: Comments: Proper dessertt whisky. of this. 112 Scotch Whisky
