Sweetness goes floral. The oak helps with vanilla custard tarts and nutmeg. The oak come first. Oily, creamy vanilla sweetness. Honeycomb and milk chocolate, then fruits take over with pears in custard, caramelise­d apricot tart and a zip of citrus. Lively and full of sweetness, like lemon zest filled honey. Plenty of balance here with oak playing off some lively fruit. Heather and gorse flowers, oat cakes with goat’s cheese. A menthol edge, a tin of chalky mints. Sweet William and apple blossom. Salami with fennel seeds. Manchego cheese. A faint metallic edge, wrapped in cord. Smoke notes with salted butter and glacé cherries. Rum and raisin ice cream. Melon wrapped in Parma ham sprinkled with cinnamon powder. Slowly dries. A great starting dram for an early 80s dinner party. Campbeltow­n Island ===== ===== Palate: Specialist, Limited Edition, Worldwide Worldwide Palate: Finish: Finish: 8.4 8.8 Comments: Comments: Sam Lyndsey Nose: Nose: Freshly baked granola. Demerara sugar. A few summer berries in there too. Buttery pastry. Wow – so sweet initially with orchard fruits that just wash over the tongue. Great handling of oak that makes its presence felt but is refined. Caramel and buttery toast. Short length with a peppery sensation. Classy stuff and great flavours. Seems like it’s been taken from the cask at just the right time. There’s a lot to like here. Floral and aromatic for an Island whisky with lavender oil, jasmine soap, freshly cut cucumbers and cardamom seeds. Wisps of sea salt chocolate and baked coconuts. Nutty spices come to the forefront of the palate with roasted hazelnuts, cayenne pepper, hot sandalwood and barbequed charcoal. Dirty oil, polished mahogany and blackcurra­nt.. Hot and peaty with an oily consistenc­y. A real tastebud boxer. Palate: Palate: Finish: Comments: Finish: 8.4 8.9 Comments: ISLE OF RAASAY DISTILLERY JOHNNIE WALKER WHILE WE WAIT 2018 RELEASE BLUE LABEL R&B Distillers Diageo Rob Rob 46% 40% ABV: BOTTLING: STYLE: REGION: PRICE: AVAILABILI­TY: ABV: BOTTLING: STYLE: REGION: PRICE: AVAILABILI­TY: Independen­t Single Malt Distillery Blended Nose: Nose: Dense and fragrant, plenty of floral notes, freesias and peonies, but then fresh sawn oak and toffee aromas start to emerge. Plenty of fruit and tobacco leaf here too. Soft spices and cedar. Toffee notes coming through, then some hints of smoke. Malty too, chocolate coated honeycomb, think Maltesers. Loads of dried fruit, toasted pine nuts and a delicate drying smoke. A seriously well balanced and delightful whisky. Wildly fruity and floral. Strawberri­es and raspberrie­s, sweetness and a little sour edge. Farmyard too, with fresh hay and goat’s cheese. The strawberri­es and raspberrie­s remain. There’s a whiff of peat in here and a little minerality of hot stones. Now the peat starts to grip. Dries with a little wood and the smoke dominates. Feels young, but has some wonderful qualities, there is a winey side too it, that makes this interestin­g. Highlands Scotland ===== ===== Palate: Worldwide Specialist, Palate: Worldwide Finish: Finish: Comments: 8.2 9.2 Comments: Lyndsey Sam Nose: Nose: Fairly reserved initially, with a gentle bonfire note. Beneath the ashes is a subtle sweet custard note. A light, oily mouthfeel, that initially brings Danish pastries and faint hits of mango. Sweet with your grandparen­ts’ toffees. Eventually it becomes smoky – a green, tobacco smoke at that. Something organic is burning. Long, dry and smoky. A great choice to introduce to a new whisky drinker. Fruity and sweet with pecan pralines, crushed pistachios, marzipan, kiwis and foam bananas. Lemon sherbet, rose oil and pear cider, creating a sparkling finish. Lemon sherbet and banana. A dry, nutty flavour with marzipan, sour cherries, cayenne pepper and cinnamon. Spicy and dry with a very creamy oat consistenc­y. Morning mimosas with banana and cinnamon porridge.
