How SJP lost £4m on her perfect Sex and the City pad
COSTLY renovations turned this New York townhouse into a pad fit for her stylish alter ego Carrie Bradshaw.
But it seems that, just like her frivolous Sex And The City character, Sarah Jessica Parker is not good with money.
The 50-year-old and her actor husband Matthew Broderick have lost ‘at least $6million (£4million)’ after finally finding a buyer for the five-bedroom house in Greenwich Village, experts said yesterday.
It comes with a walk-in wardrobe with plenty of space to house all those Manolo Blahnik heels and colourful clothes favoured by Carrie – Miss Parker has previously admitted she kept ‘literally everything’ from her days on the hit series.
The rest of the building looks like a show home with minimalist designer furniture, perhaps because the couple and their children James, 12, and five-year-old twins Marion and Tabitha, reportedly never lived there but in a house in neighbouring West Village.
They sold the Greenwich Village house last month for $19.5million, roughly £13million – which was only $500,000 more than they had paid for it in 2011.
New York estate agent Vanessa Gad of Gad Realty, who specialises in luxury apartments, said: ‘The renovation would have been $3million-$4million at least, then with closing costs and leaving it sitting, they must have lost at least $6million on this house.
‘Overall I guess it wasn’t a good deal if they lost money. I think they really bought it to live in, but changed their mind. As a seller they’ve lost a ton of money.’
The couple had repeatedly tried to sell the property for more money. It was originally listed for $25million in 2012, but was reduced to $22million in September 2014 then $19.95million in December, before the final price was agreed.
