and FOUND!
A FEW months ago John Barton, who l i ves i n the wonderfully named Westward Ho! i n north devon, was looking for Judith Whitehead, his ‘first true love’, who he met at Butlin’s holiday camp in august 1959.
He recalls: ‘Bobby darin’s dream lover was a popular hit at that time. Several times i visited her home in Urmston, Manchester, and we often danced at t he locarno Ballroom in Sale and went for bicycle rides to Knutsford.
‘They were great times. i think she went to Cheadle Hulme Grammar School, Manchester, and worked at that city’s refuge assurance Company. She and her parents lived in Berwick avenue, Urmston. When i phoned her there in 1964, her mother told me that Judith was getting married.
‘i later learned she became Mrs Judith lambert in august 1964. i got married a month later, and my wife and i celebrated our Golden Wedding anniversary last year. i’d love to make contact with Judith to find out how she and her family are doing — it would be wonderful if i could be in touch with her before the years run out. Mind you i am only 73 years young. and do you know, my favourite song to sing at karaoke is still dream lover by Bobby darin!’
Well dear readers, a most helpful email arrived from John Fletcher, a genealogist of 38 years’ standing, who was able to locate Judith’s whereabouts in the north of england. He added: ‘Oh, and dream lover is a terrific record!’ Yes, i agree.
Meanwhile a delighted John Barton emailed: ‘ This is amazing! i will write to Judith and thank John! Your assistance has made me very happy.’
