Confidence high in County camp

- By ALASDAIR FRASER

RAFFAELE DE VITA admits it would be ‘devastating’ if Ross County tumbled into the Play-Off Final after mounting such a stirring recovery. The talented Italian has been influential in their points surge since February with some first-class performances. From six points adrift at the foot of the table, County tore off on a nine-game unbeaten run, including eight victories, which turned the relegation battle on its head. However, without a win from three post-split matches so far, there remains work to be done as Motherwell are now just three points behind in the play-off position. De Vita feels the Dingwall club were poor at Partick Thistle three weeks ago, but showed they remain the form club at the lower end of the table with a draw at Motherwell and a dominant display last weekend in a ‘freakish’ defeat to St Mirren. And the 27-year-old insists County remain confident of finishing the job with a win over Hamilton today. ‘We’d have liked three points last Saturday to put it to bed, but obviously you can never really predict football,’ he said. ‘We lost the game — I don’t know how — and we just need to get another three points at home. We’re playing a team we can beat. ‘Partick was a difficult game and we didn’t perform but we definitely felt we could have done it against St Mirren. ‘We dominated the 90 minutes and they kick a long ball up and get a goal. It was really frustrating. It’s unlucky it’s dragging on, but it’s in our hands — we just need to win these last two games. ‘Given the run we achieved, it would be devastating if we failed to achieve safety.’
